Throwback Thursday: Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret - Judy Blume

Throwback Thursday, an event hosted by Jenny over at Take Me Away Reading, is a new meme I'll be featuring at least once a month  It's the time to recognize those older books… an older book you’ve always wanted to read, or one that you have read and love; maybe one from your childhood; or review an older book -- how about even a classic!
Synopsis: It is the story of twelve-year-old Margaret Simon who is worried she'll never have anything to put in her bra, won't know how to kiss a boy when the time comes, and worst of all, will be the last in the PTS club to get her period. As if all that weren't enough, she's getting used to a new home and a new school. Her private talks with God are special to her, but is she supposed to be Jewish or Christian?

I don't know about the rest of you, but this book was all the rage when I was in the fourth grade.  I think every girl in my class read it at some point.  Though I had read a lot of Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden books, Judy Blume seemed to be the first author that spoke directly to the elementary/middle school crowd and really dealt with their issues.  Scores of girls around the country have repeated the "I must, I must, I must increase my bust" mantra, thanks to this book.  If you're in the mood to take a trip back to the 70s, or you're looking for a good book to share with your pre-teen, I highly recommend Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.
